Hi, I’m Mengyu Li, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida.

My research examines how emerging media technologies shape public attention, collective responses, and democratic participation around political, health, and social justice issues. Using computational and quantitative methods, I study communication processes across networked, cross-platform, and multimodal media environments. My work explores digital media, political communication, media effects, artificial intelligence, social media activism, and health communication. I employ computational methods—including natural language processing, large language models, and multimodal analysis—as well as quantitative methods, including web-based experiments and cross-national surveys.

I earned my Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I was advised by Professor Dhavan Shah. I also completed a minor in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Quantitative Methods. I earned an M.Phil. in Communication Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University, an M.A. in Global Communication from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a bachelor’s degree in Management from Renmin University of China.
